Why did you choose to embark on your journey with Fashion Icons, delving into the world of fashion and sustainability?
Kuan-Ning Tseng: My decision to join Fashion Icons as a strategic advisor in the area of sustainability was driven by a profound desire to break free from the confines of convention and embrace a path less traveled. Growing up in a traditional family within a society that often limited opportunities for women, I felt the urge to challenge the status quo. While comfort and predictability were within my reach, they didn't align with my aspirations. I yearned for adventure, the thrill of the unknown, and the joy of learning, which ultimately led me to explore uncharted territories.
My unconventional journey began with my very first job as a hotpot restaurant waitress. It wasn't a matter of necessity but rather a pursuit of the exhilaration that new experiences offered. This spirit of embracing the unfamiliar continued to drive me. My educational voyage took me from Taiwan to Germany, where I endeavored to master a third language and explore the enchanting wonders of Europe. Munich Business School opened doors to the international arena, and my academic pursuit took another twist when I ventured to Boston University in the United States, immersing myself in the intricacies of AI and coding.
Through these transformative experiences, I developed a deep commitment to sustainability. This dedication led to my thesis focused on promoting sustainable living. By the time I returned to Germany with two master's degrees from different continents, I was primed to embark on my professional journey.
During this phase, I connected with my co-founders, Rene Hennen, Matthias Endriss, and Nico Kaiser, experts in blockchain. Together, we founded FUND THE PLANET, leveraging tech for environmental preservation. This leap into entrepreneurship echoes Steve Jobs' wisdom: life's dots connect in hindsight. My journey with Fashion Icons embodies this philosophy, where innovation and sustainability converge in the fashion world.
How did your education at Munich Business School influence your perspective on global events like the war in Ukraine? Can you discuss the impact of war on societies and the role of business leaders in fostering global peace and stability?
Kuan-Ning Tseng: My educational journey at Munich Business School provided me with valuable international exposure and diverse perspectives, which have greatly shaped my understanding of global events, including the war in Ukraine. It's clear that war has a devastating impact on societies, causing immeasurable suffering and instability. Business leaders have a crucial role to play in promoting peace and stability in the world. By fostering collaboration, sustainable practices, and ethical leadership, we can contribute to a more peaceful and harmonious global community.
In the wake of recent SEC actions against several cryptocurrency platforms and tokens in the U.S., how does Fashion Icons navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and continue to inspire confidence and loyalty among its supporters, given the heightened scrutiny on digital assets?
Kuan-Ning Tseng: Cryptocurrency and Web3 operate globally, and my experiences across three continents – Taiwan, Germany, and the United States, where Fashion Icons is based — provide me with a comprehensive understanding of regulatory landscapes. In Germany, BaFin oversees financial markets and digital assets, fostering stability and innovation. In Taiwan, the FSC supervises securities, banking, and insurance sectors, creating a conducive environment for blockchain and crypto developments.
In the United States, the SEC actively regulates digital assets to enhance safety and trust within the crypto market. These regulations prioritize clear guidelines and represent a step toward a more regulated and inclusive crypto industry. This collaborative effort is shaping a brighter future.

Kuan-Ning Tseng: Here are key lessons from my journey. First, resilience is essential; the path to success is often unpredictable. Second, continuous learning is vital in the fast-evolving world of fashion and technology. Third, a supportive network and collaboration are powerful tools.
What are your future plans for Fashion Icons, especially in sustainability and innovation, and how do you see your own role evolving in the next 10-20 years?
As I gaze into the future, I envision Fashion Icons as a driving force in the fashion industry, setting new standards for sustainability and digital integration. We will be at the forefront of shaping the future of fashion, with our commitment to delivering unique, unforgettable experiences in the phygital space.
Personally, from my very first job as a waitress at a hotpot restaurant, a far cry from the traditional path my family had envisioned for me — securing a 9-5 job and marrying into wealth. In the next 10 to 20 years, I envision myself playing a significant role in empowering individuals within the fashion industry and the environmental sustainability sector. I'll be deeply immersed in these creative domains, actively contributing to the transformation of how fashion is created, experienced, and embraced.
Personally, I foresee achieving unicorn status through successful business partnerships, innovations, and sustainable practices, with my central mission continuing to revolve around the seamless fusion of tradition and technology, promoting sustainable practices, and serving as an inspiration to our dedicated teams and supporters. This is a journey I wholeheartedly embrace, and I am excited about the immensely positive impact we will make in the years to come. I firmly believe that my strategic advisory role in sustainability with Fashion Icons, combined with my full-time position as the Chief Sustainability Officer at FUND THE PLANET will play pivotal roles in shaping not only my personal future but also the future of these respective industries.
What do you think about the current situation in Ukraine?
Any war it is a big struggle and tragedy for every country. Hope that peace will come to Ukraine. I’ve heard a lot of good about Ukrainian designers and hope to work with them sometimes.
